Ikea connected a PV system at its store in Portland, Oregon, to the grid, the company has announced. The company contracted REC Solar to develop the system and install 2,072 PV panels on 62,500 square feet of roof surface. The system is owned and operated by Ikea and Portland is the 16th US branch of the Swedish company that has a rooftop PV system.
Ikea is planning on installing PV systems at 21 other stores in the US, expecting a total of 30.9MW once all systems commence production.
“Our mission is to create a better everyday life for many people and at Ikea Portland, we just added to this effort,” commented Alessandra Zini, Ikea Portland’s store manager. “A solar energy system will help reduce the store’s carbon footprint and represents another investment toward our future in this community. We appreciate the support from the City of Portland, Pacific Power and REC Solar, our partners in this project.”
