This morning at 9am the doors opened for the first day of the Intersolar EU 2012 exhibition and, despite the rain, the visitors flocked in their thousands. Held in Munich for the fifth year running, the event kicked off yesterday with the annual conference at the Internationales Congress Center München before the world's largest solar exhibition opened today at the Messe München.

Opening the first day of proceedings, State Minister, Erwin Huber, said: “I am sure the energy revolution in Germany will succeed and photovoltaics will play a significant part!”

Gathering at the ICM, industry participants and international experts came together to discuss trends, markets and technologies within the global solar industry. Approximately 400 speakers and 2,500 attendees will share information and ideas on the latest topics in photovoltaics, PV production technologies and solar thermal technologies over four days.

Running alongside day two of the Intersolar conference, the Solar Power UK team held its Doing Solar Business in the UK event, which saw more than 70 solar industry specialists gather to discuss how the recent feed-in tariff changes have affected the success of the UK market going forward. Speakers included the Solar Trade Association's PV Specialist Ray Noble, who talked about the UK solar market's size and expectations for the year to come and Martin Cotterell, Chairman & Technical Director, Sundog Energy who presented on the current MCS standards and understanding installers’ requirements in the UK.

Following on from the success of day one, this year's Intersolar EU exhibition saw faces new and old set up shop in Munich for the next three days. In total, 2,200 exhibitors including photovoltaics manufacturers in crystalline modules and inverter sectors as well as solar thermal, CPV and thin-film companies are this year spread out over 15 halls.

Alongside the more familiar technologies, up-and-coming solutions including energy management and storage solutions were displayed this year including battery systems, solutions for effective energy distribution, building integrated photovoltaics and solar-powered consumer products.

As day one draws to a close, the PV-Tech team will once more welcome the UK solar specialists to its booth to discuss market developments over a glass of wine. If you're at Intersolar this year be sure to drop by Booth A3.460 to meet the faces behind Solar Media Ltd.
