Chinese PV manufacturer JA Solar has started volume production of a standard 60-cell double-glass module that also meets IEC standards for 1,500V applications, widely adopted in US utility-scale projects.
JA Solar said the new modules have successfully passed all the reliability tests required by IEC61215 and IEC61730 standards, obtained at TUV SUD, and had been put into volume production earlier this month.
JA Solar said the 60-cell multi-Si modules were encapsulated using 2.5mm thick high strength tempered glass on both sides with a frameless design, offering greater reliability in harsh environments
They operate at 1,500V with a 30-year performance warranty with less than 2.5% power degradation in the first year followed by a linear annual degradation rate of 0.5%. The performance of the modules at the warranty period end was said to be 85%.
JA Solar’s shipments to the America’s in the second quarter of 2015, accounted for only 0.6% of shipments, which totalled 790MW.
The company is establishing a 400MW integrated PV manufacturing plant in Malaysia to provide duty-free products into the booming US market.
