JGC Corporation has entered the domestic solar power scene upon joining Japan’s largest-scale mega-solar PV generation project, which is located in Oita City, Oita Prefecture. The plant is expected to begin commercial operation in May 2013 and will be the largest capacity mega-solar plant in the country.
The plant will have a generating capacity of 26,500kW with the power produced sold to Kyushu Electric Power under Japans’ FiT. One of JGC’s subsidiary’s will oversee the plant’s management for twenty years, starting with its operation in May 2013. Construction will be completed by a consortium of JGC’s subsidiary JGC Plant Solutions and Yonden Engineering with JGC managing the facilities maintenance.
The project, which has a total cost of around US$101,612,800 (8 billion yen) is financed through a project finance contract with Mizuho Corporate Bank, Oita Bank, Howa Bank and Fukuoka Bank and is the first to be financed through a project finance scheme.
