The US subsidiary of Germany-based renewable energy firm Juwi has signed a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the not-for-profit wholesale power supplier Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association for a 30MW PV project to be built in southern Colorado.
The San Isabel Solar Project is expected to come online in the final quarter of 2016. It will include more than 100,000 PV panels on 101 hectares of land in Las Animas County near Trinidad.
This is Tri-State’s first PPA for a utility-scale solar plant in Colorado and the second in its resource portfolio. In 2010, Tri-State began receiving power from the 30MW Cimarron Solar project in New Mexico.
Brad Nebergall, Tri-State’s senior vice president of energy management, said: “We have taken a steady, deliberate approach to integrating renewable resources, and it has paid off over time as we continue to build a generation fleet that remains cost-effective for our member systems.”
