The provincial government of Cavite in the Philippines has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with South Korea-based systems solutions provider LG CNS to construct a US$180 million PV plant in the municipality of Tanza.
Talks were initiated in August 2011 between the government and another South Korean company, Geomyung Solar. However, the government has not divulged why LG CNS were chosen instead.
Under the terms of the MoU, LG CNS will finance the plant’s construction cost and operation, as well as provide the necessary training for employees. The government has agreed to provide the firm with the information, assistance and cooperation needed for the development and implementation of the project.
Construction is due to start within the next 12 months, with completion expected in 2014 and is deemed to be the country’s largest PV project.
