Laser structuring specialist, LPKF SolarQuipment has installed a new LPKF Presto laser scriber at its Shanghai application centre to extend its capabilities in researching advanced laser machining techniques for thin-film PV modules employing different coating technologies.
The multi-function scribing system, designed for laboratory applications will be for scribing thin-film coatings of CdTe, aSi/µSi and CIGS, according to the company.
The LPKF Presto system can be equipped with various laser sources and a mechanical needle. It has said that the system was developed to handle all the steps in the laser structuring of thin-film substrates such as scribing the pattern in P1, P2 and P3.
In addition, the system design was said to enable both scribing of the coated surface as well as through the glass substrate. An integrated imaging system was said to be used to reference the P1 pattern for the P2 and P3 scribing steps.
Ricon Li, LPKF Solar Product Manager in Shanghai said: “LPKF Presto is a very precise and flexible scribing tool which can easily be used to determine and confirm parameters for production lines equipped with the LPKF Allegro systems.”
The Shanghai-based application centre was said to be ready to take customer samples for development.
