In its attempt to reach Michigan’s Renewable Portfolio Standard, which encourages 10% of a utility’s retail electric sales to come from renewable sources by 2015, DTE Energy has launched a request for proposal (RFP) in which qualified solar PV panel suppliers are being sought in order to supply solar panels and logistics for various DTE solar projects through 2014.
The intended solar projects in DTE’s service territory will own and operate by the company. Both ground-mounted and rooftop solar systems will be installed on commercial, industrial and DTE Energy locations. In 2011, 3MW of panels will be required with up to 12MW installed by 2014.
“This is another step in making Southeastern Michigan more self-sufficient when it comes to energy,” said Trevor Lauer, DTE Energy vice president of marketing and renewables. “Moving to solar and wind energy is all possible because of the comprehensive energy legislation passed in 2008.”
