M+W Zander has won the general contract for the design and construction of a thin-film solar photovoltaic module factory for an affiliate of Q-Cells. The new manufacturing facility, located in Thalheim, Germany, will have a production capacity of 90 MWp.
The factory complex includes the production building, storage facilities, central utility building, and offices. The first modules will be ready for delivery in the fourth-quarter 2009.
Reports indicate that Solibro, Q-Cells CIGS TFPV affiliate, will be the recipient of the new facility.
In the parent company’s Dec. 9 guidance update, company CEO Anton Milner made it clear that plans for Solibro’s capacity expansion are going ahead, despite the weakening financial situation. He noted that Solibro has ramped to 30 MWp on its first line, which will be increased to 45 MWp next year, and that plans for a second 90-MWp unit remain on schedule, also for 2009.
