In a bid to promote solar PV in New York, state governor, David Paterson has announced US$10 million in federal stimulus funds set aside to subsidize eligible solar projects, according to Forbes.
The New York Energy Research and development Authority will award the funds through statewide solicitation. Governor Paterson hopes that this will promote the use of solar energy and increase the amount of photovoltaic installations.
The New York Power Authority (NYPA) also plans to develop 100MW of solar capacity, this would increase the state’s solar power capacity five-fold say state officials. These generators would be owned and operated by the developers, with NYPA buying electricity on behalf of customers. Officials say 40 entities have already expressed interest.
