Leading ‘Silicon Module Super League’ (SMSL) member JinkoSolar has started a collaboration with Greatcell Solar, formerly Dyesol and the Nanyang Technology University (NTU) in Singapore on perovskite solar cells.
Greatcell Solar said that the perovskite collaboration was non-exclusive but developmental work would be on a confidential basis.
Richard Caldwell, managing director of Greatcell solar said, “We are delighted to jointly explore commercialisation opportunities with Jinko for our revolutionary technology in China. Jinko is very progressive, recognises the potential of our emerging technology and is a world leader in the solar sector. Moreover, Jinko has a deep understanding of risk-managed technology development and the benefits of economies of scale in manufacture. The possibilities for collaboration are enormous.”
Late last year, Trina Solar and Wuxi Suntech previously announced they were collaborating with the Australian Centre for Advanced Photovoltaics (ACAP), based at The University of New South Wales (UNSW) on perovskite solar cells.
Greatcell solar rival, UK-based Oxford Photovoltaics had already signed a joint development agreement (JDA) with an unidentified global manufacturer of solar cells and modules and had purchased the former Bosch Solar CIS thin-film production site in Brandenburg an der Havel, Germany to provide potential customers with batches of tandem cells for evaluation as part of its IP licensing business model.
