Project Focus: New Jersey’s PSE&G selects 12MW of solar sites, chooses developers

New Jersey’s Public Service Electric and Gas (PSE&G) has selected four sites and developers for more than $50 million in investments in 12MW of grid-connected solar power. The utility says that it  hopes to start construction at the sites located in the communities of Edison, Hamilton, Linden and Trenton this spring, with the projects completed during the summer and fall.

The design and installation work on the ground-mounted solar installations will be completed by four different solar developers: J. Fletcher Creamer & Son, headquartered in Hackensack, NJ (Silver Lake Solar Farm, Edison; 2 MW); American Capital Energy; headquartered in North Chelmsford, MA (Yardville Solar Farm, Hamilton; 5.1 MW); Advanced Solar Products; headquartered in Flemington, NJ (Linden Solar Farm, Linden; 3.6 MW) and Sun Edison, headquartered in Beltsville, MD (Trenton Solar Farm, Trenton; 1.3 MW).

The four sites, among the largest to be developed in the state so far (with the Hamilton project said to be the largest), will be located on a total of more than 37 acres and employ some 48,000 crystalline-silicon solar panels, and will also have monitoring and communications functionality, according to PSE&G.

Approximately 150 jobs will be created when installation begins.

The projects are part of the utility’s PSE&G’s Solar 4 All program, which was approved by state regulators in July. The program involves a total of $515 million investment in 80MW of solar, creating green jobs and nearly doubling the size of New Jersey’s installed solar capacity.

The state has installed more than 100 MW of solar energy over the past few years, making it second only to California in terms of the amount of PV capacity installed.
