Australia accredits its 5,000th installer
Australia’s Clean Energy Council (CEC) has accredited the country’s 5,000th installer.
High electricity prices have contributed to a renewed boom in rooftop PV, both commercial and residential, with a record 1.2GW of solar installed in 2017. In 2007 there were just 300 accredited installers.
To mark the occasion, the first accredited installer Geoff Stapleton presented the 5,000th, John Morrell, with AU$5000 (US$3883.50) worth of tool and training vouchers. The prize was donated by CEC associate member Global Sustainable Energy Solutions,
One in five Australians has solar on their roof but the CEC expects demand to remain high.
“The Clean Energy Council expects that the number of Accredited Installers will continue to grow in the coming years as prevailing high electricity prices drive more consumers and businesses to consider a rooftop solar installation,” it said in a statement.
It added that interest in energy storage systems would also increase the need for, and number of, CEC-accredited installers.
