Bahrain 5MW solar plant complete

System provider, Petra Solar, and its partner, the Washington DC-based renewable infrastructure business group, Caspian Renewable Energy, have completed a 5MW installation in Bahrain.

The 5MW ‘Smart solar power plant’ was inaugurated 25 June and will generate 8,000MWh a year and is installed with Petra Solar’s real-time date monitoring ‘SunWave’ microinverters.

The plant is to be owned by the state Bahrain Petroleum Company (BAPCO), a National Oil and Gas Authority subsidiary.  

The plant is part of national initiative for Bahrain to reach 10% renewable energy generation.

Adel Almoayyed, CEO of BAPCO said the solar plant “will be the first step in Bahrain’s march towards a solar future”.

Marty Youssefiani, chief executive of Caspian Renewable Energy said the project is “an important milestone in the public-private partnership between Bahrain and the US”.

Youssefiani added that Caspian is committed to long-term investment in further research and development (R+D) and manufacturing in Bahrain’s renewable energy industry.
