Dubai’s state-run utility has confirmed the next 800MW phase of development at the Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum Solar Park.
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) confirmed that the tender process for the third phase of the park is currently slated for the third quarter of 2015.
A tender for consultancy services to the 800MW development was released last week pre-empting Sunday’s official announcement of the scheme’s next stage. The end goal for the development is to reach 3GW. DEWA chief Saeed Mohammed al Tayer said it was currently on track.
The second phase of the project grabbed headlines when the winning bid put the cost per kWh at under six US cents. The original tender was for 100MW but was subsequently doubled after the results were announced. It is scheduled for completion by 2017.
