Duke Energy has released a proposal for a new programme that will grow renewable energy options for both commercial and industrial customers in South Carolina.
The proposed Green Source Advantage program will give large non-residential customers the option to benefit from large amounts of solar and other renewable-energy sources to meet their clean-energy goals.
Along with giving Duke Energy’s South Carolina businesses a chance to benefit from bill credits for energy produced by a PV project not on their own ground, it will also allow customers to retain RECs produced by the facility.
Kodwo Ghartey-Tagoe, Duke Energy's South Carolina president, said: “We've received significant interest from our large commercial and industrial customers in offering programs that help them meet their sustainability goals. The Green Source Advantage program will leverage renewable energy options to do just that."
If approved, the program would offer a total of 150MW of reserved renewable energy capacity to South Carolina. Of that 150MW, 113MW will be reserved for customers of Duke Energy Carolinas, while 37MW will be reserved for customers of Duke Energy Progress, primarily serving the Pee Dee region including Florence and Sumter counties.
The next step will see the program gain approval by the Public Service Commission of South Carolina (PSCSC) before it can be offered to customers.
