Leading CdTe thin-film producer and project developer First Solar has broken ground on the first of three PV projects for US utility, Indiana Michigan Power (I&M).

First Solar said that the Twin Branch Solar Facility in Mishawaka, Indiana, a 2.6MW project had started construction, while the the 5MW Olive Solar Facility in New Carlisle, Indiana and the 4.6MW Watervliet Solar Facility in Watervliet, Indiana are all expected to be in full commercial operation by the end of 2016, and would be connected to I&M's existing distribution system.

The company has also teamed with GEM Energy as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for Twin Branch. I&M was said to own and operate the power plant, supported by system monitoring software provided by First Solar subsidiary skytron energy.
