Leading PV inverter manufacturer Huawei has confirmed that it has been selection to provide it’s fully digitalized ‘FusionSolar’ smart PV solution to Spain’s first subsidy-free PV power plant, being built by renewables firm, BayWa r.e.

Huawei said that it would provide its fully digitalized Smart PV Solution complete with a combination of SUN2000-60KTL and SUN2000-100KTL inverters to the under construction 170 MWp Don Rodrigo plant, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2018. 

“By building open and collaborative relationships, we can continuously create more value and better experiences for our customers and more innovative PV ecosystems,” noted Sebastian Mohr, key account director of Europe for Huawei. “Don Rodrigo, with Huawei’s smart string inverters, will set the benchmark for the digitalization of the Spanish solar industry.”

The plant will also be based on 1500V architecture to reduce BOS (Balance of System) costs.

Dr. Benedikt Ortmann, Head of Solar Projects at BayWa r.e., added:  “Don Rodrigo is a landmark project, being the first grid-parity, utility-scale, PV project worldwide. Key to success will be working with our trusted partners. Huawei combines a collaborative working approach with extremely reliable inverters. For some years, we have been cooperating together and developing a trusting relationship, so, Huawei was the natural choice for us.”
