Indian state-owned power equipment manufacturer Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has bagged an EPC order for 80MW of solar PV capacity in Tamil Nadu and Telangana for mining and power firm Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL).
The order is valued at INR4370 million (US$65 million) bringing BHEL’s solar portfolio to 300MW.

A 65MW plant will be set up at Neyveli, Tamil Nadu for NLC and a 15MW plant set up for BEL at an ordinance factory premises in Medak, Telangana.
In April BHEL was advised to step up its activities in solar energy by Indian minister of heavy industries and public enterprises Anant Geete.
BHEL has already won two 50MW solar orders from major utility NTPC at Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh this year.
