Pakistan Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has attended the launch of the second phase of a 1GW solar power project in Bahawalpur, according to local reports.
The Quaid-i-Azam Solar Park on 2,630 hectares of desert was established by the Government of Punjab and is being run by Quaid-e-Azam Solar Power Company (QA Solar).
Construction of the 100MW first phase was completed in February. It has already started exporting electricity to the grid.
The second phase will account for 300MW of the project by the end of 2015. A further 600MW will be added by the end of 2016.
China-based engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor TBEA SunOasis will provide the EPC and O&M for the project.
