Saferay, an independent solar power producer, is seeking approval for its proposed 135MW PV plant in the Atacama Desert in northern Chile.

The company has submitted its plans to the Chilean environmental authority Servicio de Evaluación Ambiental.

The project, called Parque Solar Carrera Pinto, will be located in the municipality of Copiapó and would require an investment of US$300 million. It would be equipped with 560,832 PV modules covering a total area of 180.5 hectares and is expected to generate 240GWh if electricity annually.

Output generated by the facility will be fed into the Central Interconnected System (SIC) grid through high-voltage power lines.

Once approval has been sought, construction is expected to commence in September.
