According to Heraeus, the SOL9631 front-side paste has new and unique glass chemistry combined with a new organic vehicle system for ultra-fine-line printing, due to a denser microstructure.

Major metallization paste producer Heraeus Photovoltaics has launched two new PERC (Passivated Emitter Rear Cell) pastes at SNEC 2016 in Shanghai, China.

With a long history of metallization paste development for PERC solar cells behind it, Heraeus noted that the new pastes enabled fine line printing with improved conversion efficiencies and adhesion under lower firing temperatures.

According to Heraeus, the SOL9631 front-side paste has new and unique glass chemistry combined with a new organic vehicle system for ultra-fine-line printing, due to a denser microstructure. SOL9631 is said to support finger geometry that can print defect-free through less than 30µm screen opening.

The paste can be fired at low temperatures but provides enhanced adhesion of the Ag-Silicon, improving grid resistivity and solderability. Heraeus also noted that light-introduced-degradation (LID) loss was also reduced to a level similar to a normal P-type module.

The second new paste launched at SNEC is the SOL326 series, designed for back side tabbing of PERC cells. The glass chemistry has been developed to create a controlled reaction between the Ag paste and the dielectric layer.

Newly developed paste additives in SOL326 are said to result in less fire-through/penetration into the passivation region and protects the emitter during the metallization process better than previous pastes.  SOL326 is said to increase cell efficiencies to over 20%, while improving Voc and overall module reliability.

Dr. Weiming Zhang, Senior Vice President Innovation, Heraeus Photovoltaics said, “With the SOL9631 and the SOL326 as our newest additions to our portfolio of innovative metallization products, customers can achieve higher PERC cell efficiencies, reduced LID and improved module reliability. This proves our strong commitment to continuously provide our customers and partners with the most advanced metallization pastes, helping them to realize significant performance improvements.”
