NextEra Energy Resources and First Solar announced today that NextEra Energy Resources has completed the acquisition of two solar PV projects from First Solar for an undisclosed sum. The projects are located in St. Clair, Ontario, Canada, and produce a total of 40MW.
First Solar designed, developed and constructed both projects, using its thin-film PV modules. The sites commenced commercial operation in February 2012. Owner and operator of the projects is NextEra Energy Canada, NextEra Energy Resources’ subsidiary. The power generated will be sold to Ontario Power Authority under its Renewable Energy Standard Offer Program (RESOP).
“We are pleased to have completed the acquisition of our initial Canadian solar projects,” said NextEra Energy Resources’ senior vice president of development, Mike O’Sullivan. “Solar power will help promote a clean-energy economy in Ontario and reduce its dependence on fossil fuels.”
