Neyveli Lignite Corporation, an Indian state-owned mining and power company, plans to set up 600MW of solar capacity in states across India, according to local reports.
The firm plans to take its current generating capacity of 2,740MW up to 12,221MW through solar, coal and wind power.
NLC's chairman and managing director Surender Mohan told reporters that the company plans to build smaller-scale projects of 10-15MW in the states of Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan. It will also install a 100MW project at Neyveli.
Neyveli Lignite is also in talks with the government of Tamil Nadu and other states over land availability and economic viability of more solar projects.
PV Tech contacted the company, but it refused to comment at this time.
