North Branch Holding (NBH) and Optimus Energy Systems (OES) completed pilot-production testing of the PV solar system at the NBH-OES Mexicali Proving Grounds in Sonora, Mexico. NBH advised that their production platform had exceeded its expected performance, which was predicted by NREL’s Solar Advisory Model. OES will now construct a 5MW project as the first phase of the SLRC site.
Once phase 1 has reached completion, the companies will be increasing PV capacity to 100MW. The plant is projected to produce its first 5MW of power to Mexican markets in October 2011.
Jorge Barona, from the NBH, commented: “We are very excited about these positive results. Equipment located at our SLRC site is expected to perform well in extreme operating environments such as: temperatures exceeding 125°F, wind and sand storms, etc. The OES system has maintained SAM-predicted performance under similar conditions in Mexicali, 40 miles west of SLRC. Our technology partner, OES, has designed the PV solar system that meets requirements of our San Luis Rio Colorado site.”
