Oerlikon revealed that it had recently signed an agreement with the Sauber Formula 1 team to build a solar park at the team’s headquarters in Hinwil. Additionally, the two organizations will partner on developing several environmentally focused initiatives. Further information regarding the size of the solar project was not released.
Oerlikon did advise that the solar installation will feature silicon thin-film solar modules and is currently in the early planning stages. In a move to celebrate their partnership, the Sauber F1 Team will wear the Oerlikon logo on its gear and equipment.
Dr. Michael Buscher, CEO of Oerlikon, commented, “With its coatings for highly stressed components, Oerlikon Coating has long been a partner of Formula One and of the Sauber F1 Team. Eco-friendly technologies are playing an increasingly important role in our company. With our know-how and in collaboration with Peter Sauber's renowned team, we want to play our part in improving their environmental rating. We look forward to taking on this challenge.”
