AQT Solar has said that the first shipment of modules with AQT CIGS solar cells has recently been completed. Cell shipments have been delivered to several customers and the company states that it currently has an order backlog of 160MW, of which 50MW will be delivered in 2011.
AQT celebrated the grand opening of their Sunnyvale, California, facility just this past August 2010. The company received a good amount of press as some industry insiders were skeptical of not only the company’s fast rate of setting up operations, but also the relatively low price it had to invest to get operations started.
“We set aggressive commercialization goals for 2010 and we achieved them, capped by the delivery of our first customer orders,” said Michael Bartholomeusz, CEO of AQT Solar. “I am extremely proud of what our team has achieved to date and am confident as we enter into the New Year. 2011 and 2012 are going to be very important years for AQT as we transition past the inflection point from commercialization to high volume manufacturing.”
