In what could be the largest-ever wafer supply deal made public, GCL-Poly is to supply 10GW of polycrystalline wafers and polysilicon products to JA Solar over a five year period. The supply deal will last through January 2011 to December 2015, at pre-determined shipment volumes, which were not disclosed, neither was the value of the deal. The agreement however does contain a clause for a price adjustment mechanism.
“This multi-year supplemental supply agreement fundamentally improves our supply chain positioning with an expanded strategic supply of attractively priced poly-crystalline solar wafers,” noted Jian Xie, Chief Operating Officer of JA Solar. “It also provides a solid foundation to support JA Solar’s rapid growth and will significantly improve our cost competitiveness in the dynamic solar industry.”
The deal also reinforces GCL-Poly’s position in the materials market. The company has rapidly become a Tier 1 supplier to the PV industry.
