Jiangsu GCL Silicon Material Technology Development has placed an order totalling CHF160 million (US$193 million) for Meyer Burger’s wire saws and wafer inspection systems. The equipment, produced by MB Wafertec and Hennecke, will be used to help GCL meet rising demand for its high-grade multi-crystalline solar wafers.
Commenting on the order, Meyer Burger CEO Peter Pauli said, “As a leading process and system supplier in the photovoltaic industry, it is very important for us to successfully build on our strong relationships with key solar energy companies and demonstrate our technological leadership in the market.”
“We chose Meyer Burger as our strategic supplier enabling us to produce top quality solar wafers and meet the increasing demand for our high quality products in the solar industry as well as achieve our growth targets,” GCL’s chairman and CEO, Zhu Gong Shan, added.
The news of the order comes less than 24 hours after Meyer Burger completed a successful public takeover bid of Roth & Rau.
