GCL-Poly Energy Holdings is to arrange the procurement of modules for two 75MW PV power plants earmarked for the South African government's Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Programme (REIPPP).
The modules for the projects will use GCL-Poly’s wafers, according to the company.
Zhu Gongshan, Chairman of GCL-Poly said: “This transaction not only facilitates additional sales channel for our wafers, it also demonstrates our ability to provide integrated PV system solution in the global market.”
It is understood that the projects GCL-Poly will supply its products for within the first phase of the REIPP programme are the Kathu Solar Energy Facility and the project under the control of Solar Capital De Aar (Pty) Ltd.
The remaining two 75MW projects under the first phase were announced today (10/12/12) – to have been secured by Hanwha SolarOne. However, it should be noted that GCL-Poly was a wafer supplier to SolarFun, now Hanwha SolarOne.
The initial REIPPP plan is to have 1.45GW of PV installed by the end of 2014 and a longer-term goal to reach 8.2GW by 2030.
