SunPower has tapped Q-Cells to supply c-Si solar cells for selected commercial and utility-scale projects being undertaken by the company. The cell supply agreement is for 83MW, though no timeline or commercial details were disclosed.
“SunPower has a history of delivering highly-efficient, highly reliable solar systems, and Q-Cells solar cells align well with our panel manufacturing operations,” said Howard Wenger, president, utility and power plants, SunPower Corp.
SunPower currently has a significant PV project pipeline while at the early stages of ramping significant new capacity at its JV plant in Malaysia. The company introduced a module sourced outside to meet various demand scenarios as it was capacity constrained for high-performance module production.
The supply deal signed with Q-Cells strongly suggests that SunPower cannot meet project commitments using its own cells.
