CIGS manufacturer Solyndra has chosen Eyelit’s manufacturing software suite to support production at its new automated thin-film PV fab under construction in Fremont, CA. The contract follows the successful deployment of Eyelit’s software package in Solyndra’s first factory, where it is used to track, monitor, and provide full visibility throughout the front-end (process) and back-end (assembly) manufacturing processes.
Eyelit’s software provides detailed tube-level traceability and is integrated with Solyndra’s material control system, to ensure the correct delivery of product to factory tools with the use of automated guided vehicles, conveyors, and robots, the companies said.
Solyndra has reported in its most recent SEC filings that first production output at the Fab 2 facility could begin before the end of 2010.
“After evaluating competitive solutions in the marketplace, we concluded that Eyelit continues to be the right choice for Solyndra’s manufacturing software needs going forward,” said Paula Camporaso, Solyndra’s VP of information technology. “Eyelit offers strong support and they are very open to customer feedback and to working closely with us to continually improve our processes.”
“Working in close partnership with Solyndra’s IT team, we have been able to help them to achieve their manufacturing goals with the flexibility to expand to meet future needs,” noted Dan Estrada, VP of sales and business development at Eyelit. “Our ability to work with Solyndra’s unique and highly advanced manufacturing process further illustrates Eyelit’s ability to adapt to the needs of advanced PV manufacturing.”
