China-based PV glass manufacturer, Xinyi Solar will use 25MW of Trina Solar’s dual glass TSM-PDG5 modules for agricultural greenhouse projects in Anhui, China.
The BIPV greenhouse market is potentially a large market globally and previously touted by many thin-film start-ups as a key growth market, yet the market sector remains underdeveloped.
According to Trina Solar, dual glass PDG5 modules provide a controlled sunlight transmittance helping to maintain correct temperatures levels, while resistive to pesticide sprays used in greenhouses. The modules are also frameless comprising of two layers of 2.5mm heat-strengthened glass, a product designed and produced by Xingli Solar.
“We are pleased to be working with our long term strategic partner Xinyi Solar to support its continuing solar project development in China,” said Zhiguo Zhu, Module Business Unit President of Trina Solar. “Following the launch of our PDG5 module in early 2013, Trina Solar has received significant interest from both existing and prospective customers due to its superior value proposition and numerous unique features.”
Xinyi Solar, which is moving downstream to become a project developer over the last year, has also placed module orders with Trina Solar for utility-scale projects in the same region of China, totalling around 35MW, which include 5MW of TSM-PC05A modules and 30MW of TSM-PC14 modules.
Shipments are expected to be completed by August 2014, according to Trina Solar.
