Japanese financial group, Orix, has begun the construction of an 8.7MW solar power plant in Yokkaichi City, Mie Prefecture, Japan.
More than 34,000 panels are scheduled to be installed across an area of over 127,000 square metres.
Construction is to begin next month, with operations planned for November 2015.
Orix has estimated the project will generate 9.6 million kWh, enough to power nearly 3,000 households in Japan.
Earlier this month Orix expressed an interest in a 430MW PV plant featuring over 1,000,000 multi-crystalline silicon solar modules, which could be constructed in the south of Japan.
In April Orix announced it had started generating power at 67 solar power plants, with a combined maximum output of 66.7MW.
