PacWest Equities is to relocate its solar manufacturing line to Parana in Brazil.
The news follows a report on Monday that the California-based PacWest received US$50 million from Euro Brazil Investments to initiate the production of CIGS thin-film PV products in Brazil. It was revealed in early August that the Brazilian government had invited PacWest into the country to build a manufacturing line.
The relocation of PacWest’s manufacturing line from Canada will include the company’s tooling and intellectual property (IP), with PacWest set to manufacture a variety of solar products, including thin film.
PacWest’s manufacturing line cost an estimated US$100 million to develop, including US$67 million in research and development and US$27 million to establish the physical production line.
PacWest aim to make building-integrative glass solar panels at the manufacturing line.
PacWest estimates that the solar market in Brazil will reach US$89 billion in value by 2017.
