Hanwha Solar America (HSA) has appointed Dr. Paul Basore as director of its advanced solar research and development centre in Silicon Valley, which is on course to open this year. The company will also hire 20 to 30 scientists and engineers to conduct wide-ranging research into new PV concepts. At present, site selection is being finalized.
“We are pleased to welcome PV industry veteran Dr. Paul Basore as lab director of Hanwha’s advanced solar R&D centre; Dr. Basore’s extensive background in PV technology, technology management and lab construction makes him uniquely valuable in this new role,” said Sang Mook Lee, president of Hanwha Holdings (USA), HSA’s parent company.
Commenting on his new position Basore said, “Hanwha is well-positioned to make a big impact on the photovoltaics industry, thanks to a combination of a strong financial foundation, high-volume low-cost manufacturing operations, and a global market presence. Hanwha Solar America’s advanced solar R&D centre will be a keystone in Hanwha’s progression to a leadership role in the global solar industry.”
Basore received his PhD from MIT and previously held academic, Government and industrial positions in the U.S., Australia and Europe. He was most recently vice president of technology for REC, based in Norway.
