PNM, an electricity provider headquartered in Albuquerque in the US state of New Mexico, has started to develop the PNM Manzano Solar Energy Center located in Los Lunas, New Mexico.
The company has started to prepare the ground of the 24 hectare site which is scheduled to complete by the end of March. The Manzano solar project will be equipped with 108,000 PV modules mounted at a height of six feet with installation expected to begin in the summer.
Scheduled to come online in November, the plant will be capable of producing enough electricity to power 2,500 average-sized homes.
In 2011 and 2012, PNM brought five new PV facilities online. Combined, the plants produce around 51 million kWh of electricity a year. This year, the company is planning to install 20MW of PV capacity by building two new solar centres, the Manzano centre and the Tularosa centre, and expand two of its existing centres.
