Cumulative installed PV capacity in Portugal hit 199MW at the end of November 2012, according to statistics published by the Portuguese Directorate General for Geology and Energy (DGGE).
A breakdown of the statistics show that 5.8MW of PV capacity was installed in November. Including this figure, 41.3MW of PV capacity was installed in the country in the first 11 months of 2012. In the whole of 2011, installed PV capacity reached 157.7MW.
Total electricity produced by PV systems between January and November 2012 reached 355GWh which is enough to cover 0.7% of the country’s electricity demand, DGGE claims. In 2011 the country produced 265GWh of electricity from solar power systems.
At the end of November 2012, Portugal had 10,778MW of installed renewable energy capacity, the majority of which is accounted for by wind and solar generation systems.
