The European Photovoltaic Industry Association (EPIA) has appointed Dr. James Watson as the CEO of the trade association and is expected to take on the role at the beginning of July.
Watson comes from international PR agency, Weber Shandwick where he had worked for more than six years as the Director of Public Affairs in Brussels.
EPIA has had a major management shakeup recently with Oliver Schäfer, the newly appointed president.
“James is the right person to drive the European energy transition and ensure that photovoltaics play a crucial role in the energy mix, building on the work of a highly motivated and competent team,” said Schäfer. “James brings with him 16 years of experience in policy making and political communications having worked in Brussels, Africa and London.”
Watson is being tasked with putting EPIA in the driving seat of pushing forward the European energy transition which has become threatened by the economic slowdown in the region and diminishing political will to fund the transition.
The CEO role replaces the old secretary general position .
