The San Diego (California) Unified School District Board of Education approved a partnership last week with Amsolar to build 5.2MW of solar PV power systems on more than 80 rooftops in 20 sites throughout the district.
This 23,000-panel project will supplement the school district’s existing 4.17MW of solar power situated in 28 sites, bringing the organization’s total PV capacity to 9.38MW on 48 sites.
The solar systems will produce power equivalent to 64% of the energy consumption at the 20 sites and will provide 11% of the district’s energy needs.
The district has projected that it will save $13 million to $20 million against its utility costs.
In addition to owning, operating and maintaining the solar plants, Solana Beach, CA-based Amsolar will be engaging with the district campuses, as well as the community, by presenting and funding programs to promote solar energy awareness, education, and exploration.
