In a harmonic move with the new Federal Governments Solar Flagships Program, BP Solar, along with Verve Energy, will be constructing a 10MW utility scale solar PV plant in Geraldton, Western Australia. The companies claim that this is the largest ever grid-connected solar power plant in the country. Valued at over US$47.37 million dollars, BP Solar will provide the engineering, construction, operation and maintenance of the plant. Work is scheduled to start early in 2011.
“With funding support from the WA Government, Royalties for Regions Scheme and the Office of Energy, this project will deliver a long term supply of clean energy to the communities in and around Geraldton and contribute to the WA Government’s 20% renewable energy target by 2020.” said Tony Stocken, director of BP Solar Australia.
