LDK Solar and Enfinity have signed a supply contract that will provide some 18,000 LDK photovoltaic modules for what’s being called the largest rooftop solar energy installation project in the Benelux (Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg) region. The order will mark LDK’s first volume shipment of modules to Europe.
Enfinity will install the solar panels on the Balta Group’s factory rooftop in Sint-Baafs-Vijve, Belgium, resulting in a 4.2MWp power system covering a total surface area of more than 30,000 square meters. The solar panels will deliver an annual average power output of 3.6 million kW-hours, or the equivalent of the power consumption of some 1200 families.
The Balta Group, which manufactures broadloom carpets, rugs and laminate flooring, said it will use a portion of the solar energy to power its own business activities, with any surplus flowing back to the public grid.
Enfinity negotiated a 20-year lease for Balta Group’s rooftop space and has already begun installation, although no timeline for completion of the project has been announced. The developer is using revenue from the energy produced and the Green Energy Certificates from the Flemish Government to fund its participation in this project.
Further financial terms of the project were not disclosed.
