Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) has signed a US$700 million contract with U.S.-based Matinee Energy for the construction of two solar power plants, totaling 175MW. The plants, which are due for completion by the end of 2012, will be located in Dragoon and Cochise with 150MW and 25MW output respectively.
HHI will supply the entire system, including design, manufacturing, and installation, through engineering procurement and construction (EPC) terms. The modules provided for the plants will be manufactured at HHI’s Eumseong plant in South Korea.
“By successfully completing this project HHI will be recognized as an integrated solar power system provider who can not only make certain components but build large-scale solar power plants. This will lead to further solar power plant orders from different regions such as Europe and Asia,” said HHI chief operating officer Kim Kwon-tae.
The deal is part of Matinee Energy’s objective to build solar power plants that generate a combined 900MW in the California and Arizona regions.
