Off the west coast of Africa in Cape Verde a celebration took place to present the first of two solar parks that Martifer Solar built under its contract with the Cape Verde’s Ministry of Economy, Growth and Competitiveness. Located in Ila do Sal, the turnkey project is situated on 9.75 hectares and has 2.5MW in peak power capacity .The fixed structure project was entirely developed by Martifer using its own PV panels.
“It is an honor for us to participate in this project, since it is extremely important for Cape Verde. The energy produced in the new parks will allow a significant improvement in the quality of life of its people,” stated Henrique Rodrigues, CEO of Martifer Solar.
The new solar power site also has the possibility to expand an additional 2.5MW until 2014 and is claimed to be the largest PV power project in Africa. The second park will hold a dedication ceremony in November at its Ila de Santiago location. It holds a 5MW peak power capacity.
