Maintaining their three year partnership, which has put solar systems on 31 Macy’s facilities since 2007, SunPower is installing a 3.5MW solar power system at Macy’s Goodyear, Arizona online fulfillment center. It is estimated that around 70% of the facilities electricity demand will be provided through the solar installation and may be the largest solar system on a single rooftop in the U.S. upon its March 2011 completion.
SunPower will design, install and provide operations and maintenance service for the installation, which is using SunPower’s E19 solar panels and mounted with the T5 solar roof tile system. Furthermore, Arizona Public Service, the utility servicing the Goodyear area, will buy the renewable energy credits produced from the installation.
“We applaud Macy’s for its forward-thinking approach to environmental sustainability and corporate responsibility,” said Jim Pape, president of SunPower’s residential and commercial group. “SunPower’s reliable, high quality solar technology will deliver emission-free solar power and significant operational savings for Macy’s in Arizona for the next 25 years or more.”
