Status: Under Construction

Size: 6.7MW

Construction has commenced on a new PV system that will generate power for US communication company Verizon’s headquarters in Garden City, New York.

The installation will see the placement of over 7,000 SunPower solar panels on top of the building, which already produces 6,000,000kWh thanks to a fuel-cell system constructed in 2005.

The solar panels were delivered to the site in late September and were added onto three different roofs that connect Verizon’s building. The project will be constructed over 2.4 hectares of rooftop space.

Upon completion of the installation, which is expected to be installed by the end of this year, Verizon will maintain more than 6.7MW of green energy in New York. Verizon’s total green energy output in New York will help offset 4,600 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.
