In an effort to meet the US Navy’s objective of generating 1GW of renewable energy, utility Mississippi Power is teaming with the Navy to develop a new PV installation.
The plant, expected to boast an installed capacity of 3MW, will be developed on a nine-hectare spot of land at the Naval Construction Battalion Center Gulfport in Gulfport, Mississippi. Mississippi Power will collaborate with Hannah Solar on the project, which is expected to be completed by 2016.
Capt. Paul Odenthal, commanding officer Naval Construction Battalion Center Gulfport, said: "This innovative project represents a significant, cost-effective contribution toward the Navy's forward-leaning efforts to improve our national energy resilience through renewables. It is the result of much hard work and the strong relationship we have with our many community partners. We are happy to be part of this win-win initiative."
