Southern Company subsidiary Southern Power has obtained a controlling interest in the 157MW Roserock solar facility from solar developer Recurrent Energy.

The project is being developed by Recurrent Energy, which will own the remaining stake in the site. The installation is expected to be operational by the fourth quarter of 2016.

Developed on 526 hectares of land in Pecos County, Texas, the facility is expected to produce enough energy to power approximately 30,000 homes.

Electricity and associated renewable energy credits generated at the site will be sold as part of a 20-year power purchase agreement with Austin Energy.
