Status: Completed

Size: 1.15MW

The Tanque Verde Unified School District (TVUSD) in Tucson, Arizona, has been equipped with PV systems with a total capacity of 1.15MW.

Spread over four campuses — the Tanque Verde Elementary School, Aqua Caliente Elementary School, Emily Gray Junior High School and Tanque Verde High School — the PV systems are composed of a mix of shade structures as well as rooftop systems.

Solon Corporation engineered, designed, constructed and commissioned the systems. The company will continue to operate and maintain the systems.

The PV arrays are equipped with more than 4,000 PV modules which will help to generate over 2 million kWh of electricity every year.

Electricity generated from the systems will be purchased by TVUSD from MP2 Capital, an investor in renewable energy, under a 25-year solar services agreement.

Furthermore, local utility provider Tucson Electric Power (TEP) will purchase all of the environmental attributes generated by the system in the form of renewable energy credits (RECs), contributing to TEP’s renewable energy goals and helping to reduce the overall cost of the system.

As a result of this financing structure, TVUSD was not required to make any upfront payments or incur any ongoing annual expenditure to receive electricity over the next 25 years.

In addition to the system, Solon is also providing an education package to the school district. This package includes a system in the classrooms to monitor the systems’ output, access to the performance and weather data, and a renewable energy curriculum for elementary, middle and high school levels designed by TEP which meets Arizona state curriculum standards.
