Samsung Renewable Energy, through a collaboration with Connor, Clark and Lunn Infrastructure, has closed on US$195 million of debt financing for a 50MW PV project in Windsor, Ontario.
The Windsor Solar project will be comprised of solar panels manufactured in Ontario by Canadian Solar and inverters also developed locally by SMA America. The plant is expected to power around 8,500 homes in Ontario annually.
Samsung has signed off on a 20-year power purchase agreement with the utility Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO).
The facility’s construction will create more than 100 new jobs — with completion scheduled for late 2016 or 2017. The project is also expected to haul in more than US$18 million in local investment.
